Capturing Thanksgiving

The photos in this layout were taken with my point & shoot camera using the macro function.

I want to share a few tips on how to get up close and personal with the inanimate objects around your holiday table or around the house.

First, put your camera on the macro setting. It will look like a little flower. 

Refer to your manual to see if your camera has a super macro or digital macro function to help you get even closer to the subject.

Zoom in to get close up to the subject.

If you can, put the object in a well-lit area. 
Turn off your flash because it can wash out the subject or cause big white spots in reflective surfaces.

You can also diffuse the flash by taping a bit of vellum or tissue paper over it. 

Another trick I use is to put the camera on the table and use the self timer to make sure I don't wiggle the camera at all.

Finally take a moment to look at your composition and readjust if needed. Those extra few seconds in preparing can make a photo really great.
Remember food won't complain that you are taking too long to take its picture!!

Halloween Mussy Tussy

The tussy mussy is super easy to make...just make a cone out of patterned paper and glue it together, add a handle of ribbon or a strip of paper (I used brads to hold them)...add some embellies (I used some black tulle, and a tag with a die cut spider web, plastic spider, die cut letters and googly eyes) and be sure to include the instructions inside! I also fill it with halloween pencils, erasers, spider rings and just a few candies!

Give Thanks Tutorial

“Give Thanks” Tutorial

1.      Collect your supplies.  I used a Maya Road chipboard mini-album, the “Sam” line from Dream Street, Hambly fall stickers, Doodlebug glitter chipboard letters, and some Glitz bling (all available at the Diner store).

 

2.     Take the Maya Road album out of its packaging.  Using pliers, remove the metal rings connecting the pieces of chipboard.

 

3.   Adhere the Dream Street paper to the chipboard using your adhesive of choice (I used an ATG, but a glue stick or double-sided tape would work well).  Then use a brayer (or another similar object) to make sure the paper is solidly adhered.

 

4.   Using a craft knife and/or scissors, remove the excess paper from around the edges of the chipboard.

5.   You’ll want to use a 1/8 inch punch to punch the holes for the rings.  You can also ink the edges at this point if you wish.

 

6.     Repeat steps 3 through 5 for the remaining pieces of chipboard.  Once you have all 6 complete, lay them out and pull out your embellishments.  Now you’re ready to get creative!

 

7. Have fun and embellish as desired.  Even though the chipboard has an adhesive backing, I used foam pop-dots for extra dimension.  The cardstock cut-outs are from the Dream Street “Sam” line and the tree and owl stickers are Hambly.

 

8.    You’re almost done!  To finish, use your handy pliers and re-attach the metal rings.

 

9.    You’re finished!!!  Stand back and admire your new fall décor!

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

The Diner is going full on Pink this month and here is a great challenge to get you in the spirit.

Prevention is the key to fighting Breast Cancer.   

Because October is Breast Cancer awareness month...let's not forget our breast exams.  For this challenge I'd like us all to do a "self-exam" and create a layout about your SELF!   We are important and we need to leave a legacy about ourselves as well as our loved ones.  So, get out from behind the camera, create a layout about yourself and please remember your monthly self-exam!

 

Deadline October 31st.
